JOB LOCATION

Hybrid/Portland, OR
We are currently working a hybrid schedule, in the office 3-4 days per week. Additional workdays in the office may be required based on project and meeting needs.

OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Controller to play a crucial role in overseeing the financial health and stability of the organization. They will work closely with the executive team and contribute to strategic decision-making by providing accurate and timely financial insights. The Controller must have strong financial acumen, exceptional attention to detail, and a basic understanding of the gaming industry. Additional experience and knowledge in game monetization and e-commerce is strongly preferred. This position reports directly to the COO and involves collaboration with stakeholders across the organization.

We’d love to connect with those who have significant experience in finance and accounting, with strong preference given to candidates with experience working with game monetization and e-commerce.

KEY AREAS OF CONTRIBUTION

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis

o    Prepare and analyze financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements

o    Provide divisional financial reporting, including those specific to in-game economies, item sales (virtual and physical), and currency exchange rates

o    Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, opportunities, and areas for improvement, including in-depth analysis of in-game economic trends

o    Provide meaningful and actionable insights to senior management to support decision-making and strategic planning

  • ·         Budgeting and Forecasting

o    Work in close collaboration with the COO and financial team to develop and manage the company and division budgets, ensuring alignment with the business goals and objectives

o    Create financial forecasts and models to guide financial planning and resource allocation by division

o    Monitor budget vs. actual performance and make recommendations for adjustments as needed

·         Financial Controls, Audit and Compliance

o    Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations

o    Implement cost control measures to optimize both digital and ecommerce operations

o    In partnership with leadership and finance team, identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies in the supply chain and fulfilment process

o   Coordinate, prepare financial reports and manage external audits and liaise with auditors to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations

o    Partner with COO to ensure compliance with relevant gaming industry regulations, particularly those related to virtual economies

o   Stay updated on changes in financial reporting requirements and make necessary adjustments to company practices

·         Financial Strategy and Planning

o    Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute financial strategies that drive growth and profitability

o    Evaluate investment opportunities, ROI, and risk assessments for new ventures and projects

o    Assess and recommend opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement

o    Implement pricing models and microtransaction systems to maximize revenue while maintaining player satisfaction

o    Track and report on the performance of monetization strategies, making data-driven recommendations for improvement

·         Fraud Prevention and Security

o    Partner with CTO and COO to implement security measures to prevent fraud and unauthorized transactions within the in-game economy

o    Work with security teams to protect player accounts and virtual assets

o    Investigate and mitigate instances of fraud when they occur

o    Oversee state compliance requirements, tracking, reporting, and documentation

While the most important qualifications are listed above, the ideal candidate will have previous experience in the gaming industry, with knowledge in the following areas related to game monetization and e-commerce:

  • In-Game Economy Management
  • Monetization Strategy
  • Virtual Currency Management
  • E-Commerce Retail Management

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

We ideally seek someone with at least 8 years’ proven experience as a Controller or similar financial leadership roles in a startup, gaming, or technology-driven environment. Additional requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
    (CPA or CMA certification preferred)
  • Understanding of the gaming industry and its financial dynamics is strongly preferred
  • Understanding of E-Commerce is also strongly preferred
  • Strong proficiency in financial and accounting software and tools, including CRM, ERP, and QuickBooks
  • Strong Excel skills
