Demystifying faster payments 

The last few years have been an extremely exciting time in the Payments landscape. From whitepapers to venture capitalist investments, innovation has come from multiple fronts and the space has exploded in every sense of the word. Join us to hear a seasoned payments executive talk about some of the key developments from the last few years and learn about the various ways in which the early adopters have benefited from embracing these innovations.

Anuradha Somani is a seasoned payments executive who leads the development and commercialization of the next generation of faster payment solutions at U.S. 

Bank, including real-time payments through The Clearing House network and Disbursements via Zelle ®. She launched the New York Payment Innovation Studio in 2019 and is responsible for setting its strategic vision and roadmap execution. The studio is a new initiative for Global Treasury Management with the intent of disrupting the age-old process of product creation in banks. The studio team is comprised of product managers, UI designers, UX researchers, legal/risk partners, sales team members and developers. They work with individual clients, both onsite at the studio and offsite at client offices, to explore clients’ biggest pain points. They then create faster payment solutions that allow clients to address their areas of friction and experience cost savings, operational efficiency and customer delight.  A senior vice president, Anu has spent her career focused on delivering innovation. She is an emerging payments and digitization expert with extensive experience in new product development, market segmentation, product management and commercialization. Anu has a deep understanding of the latest technology innovations as well as experience driving initiatives that combine current and evolving payment channels.

Prior to joining U.S. Bank in March 2019, she worked in various roles at Citigroup for more than 12 years. She was responsible for leading product development and management for commercializing next-generation payment capabilities, and the execution of omnichannel payment strategy, which included the launch of RTP ® , Zelle ® and other emerging payment methods. Originally from India, Anu has lived and worked across Asia, Europe and the United States. She holds an MBA from London Business School, a master’s degree in computer science from National University of Singapore, and a bachelor’s degree in statistics from Delhi University in India. She currently resides in Princeton, New Jersey.
